The batter has not been the most prominent of players in T20 cricket anyways, but he would have hoped to ride on the wave of support for recent ODI World Cup winners in the auction room. Unfortunately, his base price of Rs 2 crore was too high for teams to take interest in.

Josh Hazlewood

The sought-after Australian fast bowler, renowned for consistency across formats, remained unsold due to unavailability in March-April. Hazlewood is expecting his first child and plans to join after the first week of May.

Rassie van der Dussen

Rassie van der Dussen had a great outing in the ODI World Cup and was the second-highest run-scorer for the Proteas. He made 448 runs in 10 matches at an average of 49.77. However, van der Dussen couldn’t find a team for the second time this year with a base price of INR 2 crore.

Van der Dussen played for Rajasthan Royals in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. He featured in three matches for the team and could make only 22 runs at a strike rate of 91.67.

Philip Salt

The hard-hitting English wicketkeeper-batsman, despite his impressive performances against West Indies, scoring 109* and 119 in two consecutive T20Is, surprisingly found no buyers despite a base price of INR 1.50 Crore.

“I was a bit confused but it can happen. There’s no bad cricketers on the list at the IPL. It’s one of those thing,” he said in the aftermath of the auction.

Karun Nair

On auction day, the first round of bidding saw Indian batter Karun Nair go unsold. Nair was not sold despite having a base price of Rs 50 lakh. Nair played for the Rajasthan-based team in the 2023 season. The 32-year-old played in 76 Indian Premier League games and amassed 1496 runs during the opulent Twenty20 competition. This one was shocking to say the least since he is an Indian batter and that commodity is very less in the league.

Josh Inglis

Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis, with a base price of INR 2 crore, went unsold in the auction. The availability of other wicketkeeping options or specific team strategies could be contributing factors. Josh has played some good innings in the recent ICC ODI World Cup 2023, which helped the team in getting title number 6.

Dasun Shanaka

The Sri Lankan has emerged as one of the prominent finishers in the shortest format of the game in the last few years. He was a part of the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023, but an injury in the World Cup preceded by a loss in batting form resulted in sides refraining from bidding for the 32-year-old.

Keshav Maharaj

The South African left-arm spinner impressed with his talent tailor-made to succeed in Indian conditions during the World Cup this year. However, teams are often wary of buying international spinners especially those who are one-dimensional and don’t offer a lot with the bat. Maharaj can be pretty good with the willow, but what he has to offer did not stack up overall in terms of what the franchises were looking for in this mini auction.

Adil Rashid

The wrist-spinner is currently with the England national team playing against the West Indies. He was one of the most economical bowlers in the second T20I conceding just 35 runs in four overs, where no other bowler had an economy rate below 10 on a flat Trinidad pitch. Yet he went unsold.
