Sex Education season 4 release date, cast, and everything we know so far

Sex Education is undoubtedly one of Netflix’s most beloved series, but season three left some major apprehensions over what’s next for the Moordale students.

While a fourth season was confirmed in September 2021, it’s becoming more and more likely that the upcoming episodes will mark the end of Sex Education… at least as we know it.

Here is what we know about the Sex Education fourth season

Exciting news about the upcoming season of Sex Education was announced at Netflix’s upfront presentation (via Collider). While the exact release date is unknown, viewers can expect the highly anticipated fourth season this autumn.

The series has received critical acclaim for its brave and mature portrayal of sensitive topics such as consent, sexual health and personal identity. Sex Education questions cultural norms and creates a thought-provoking story that connects with audiences of all ages, season after season.

Sex Education season 4 release date: When will it air?

Sex Education has officially been greenlit for season four in September 2021 – although at the time we were given all that information via a school ‘news bulletin’ on Twitter.

In August 2022, it was confirmed that the show was officially back in production… so it’s officially now a waiting game to wrap things up.

Sex Education season 4 caast: Who’s in it?

Sex Education just wouldn’t be the show without its A+ ensemble cast, each bringing a colorful and wonderfully weird character living in a Welsh suburb.

But it looks like we’re about to get a whole lot of new characters, or a completely different cast list, as several stars have confirmed they won’t be returning.

Let’s start with the good stuff: Asa Butterfield will return as Otis Milburn, and bona fide legend Gillian Anderson will return as her sex therapist mother, Dr. Jean Milburn.

Nkuti Gatwa, who was confirmed as the next Doctor in Doctor Who, will also return as Otis’ larger-than-life best companion Eric Effiong, and Emma Mackey, who Otis wishes he could be. Will/Won’t Will Willie’s interests are back in business.

But all is not lost, and it’s been confirmed returning cast members are:

  • Connor Swindells (Adam Groff)
  • Aimee-Lou Wood (Aimee Gibbs)
  • Kedar Williams-Stirling (Jackson Marchetti)
  • Dua Saleh (Cal Bowman)
  • Mimi Keene (Ruby Matthews)
  • Chinenye Ezeudu (Viv Odusanya)
  • George Robinson (Isaac Goodwin)
  • Alistair Petrie (Michael Groff)
  • Samantha Spiro (Maureen Groff)

Sex Education season 4 plot and spoilers: What will happen?

The official synopsis for Sex Education season four reads: “Following the closure of Mordale Secondary, Otis and Eric now face a new frontier their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College.

Otis is nervous about setting up his new clinic, while Eric is praying they’re not the losers again. But Cavendish is a cultural shock to all the Moordale students who thought they were progressive but this new college is another level.
