Test cricket is called the backbone of international cricket. Don Bradman is the most successful Test player in the history of Test cricket. It is the dream of almost all the cricketers to score a century in the debut test match. Test cricket has completed 144 years this year. The first Test match was played in March 1877 between Australia and England. To date, players have scored 115 centuries on their Test debut.
The first century in a debut match was scored by Charles Bannerman of Australia on 15 March 1877 while Lala Amarnath was the first Indian batsman to score a century in his debut Test match.
Recently, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who made his name famous while playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL, scored a century in his debut Test match itself. Jaiswal is a 21-year-old batsman who is considered by many cricket pundits to be the most promising player of the next generation of Indian cricketers. Jaiswal proved why this is so. Apart from his explosive style, Jaiswal also showed his stamina in red ball cricket. He completed his century in 215 balls.
Mohammad Azharuddin is the only player to have scored centuries in his first three Test matches. So far there are 17 Indian players who have scored a century in their debut test match.
